Further Information

At this stage you will probably have lots of questions about hypnosis and how it works. This section is packed with useful information about hypnotherapy, how it can benefit you and what happens in a typical session. Linda is more than happy to answer any further questions you may have and can be contacted on 07834 487678 or linda.pearce@bluejacaranda.co.uk

How does hypnotherapy work?
The easiest way to explain how hypnosis works is to get you to imagine your mind in two parts; one part is your conscious mind the other is your subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is where you carry out all your thinking and reasoning and where you temporarily store all the information that you are constantly processing through your senses. Your subconscious mind holds your emotions, habits, imagination and permanent memory. Hypnotherapy works by bypassing the conscious mind. This is achieved by putting the client into a relaxing hypnotic trance and working directly with their subconscious mind.

Will I still be in control?
Yes, you will be completely in control throughout the whole session. You may feel very relaxed and almost in a dreamlike state but you will be able to open your eyes or come out of trance at any point should you wish to do so.

What does hypnosis feel like?
Everybody experiences hypnosis in different ways. Being in the hypnotic trance is an extremely pleasant and relaxing experience.  Many people feel like they are floating or gently sinking down into the chair others describe it as feeling like daydreaming.

Is hypnotherapy safe?
Hypnotherapy is a non-evasive therapy that is completely safe and natural. It is recognised by the British Medical Association for its beneficial purposes.

Can anyone be hypnotised?
Most people experience hypnotic states on a daily basis when falling asleep or waking up or when they are totally engrossed in what they are doing such as watching a film or reading a book. This means that most people can be hypnotised except those who find it difficult to concentrate or those with severe mental health problems. In addition to this, a hypnotherapist will not work with anyone under the influence of drink or drugs.

Can hypnosis help physical problems?
Hypnosis can help you with physical problems such as pain relief but only after you have consulted your GP. Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy and does not replace conventional medicine.

Will my hypnotherapy sessions be discussed with anyone else?
All sessions are completely confidential. Linda is registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register and adheres to their strict code of ethics.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required will vary from person to person. In general, most issues will require 2–4 sessions although you can usually see some results from the very first session. More complex issues will often require more sessions. During your initial consultation, Linda will complete a detailed case history with you during which she will discuss the best course of action for your specific presenting issue and circumstances. She will then be able to advise on the likely number of sessions that you will need.

Smoking cessation is made up of two main sessions – the first session is to analyse in detail your main drivers for smoking and the reasons why you want to give up. You will then agree a date for your smoking cessation session, which Linda will tailor to your cover your specific details.

What to expect
Linda works with clients in a dedicated therapy room in her home in Newfield Gardens, Marlow, situated away from the main road in a peaceful setting on the village green and with ample parking just outside. The therapy room has been designed to be comfortable and relaxing and you can rest assured that your session will be private and completely confidential.

Your first session will usually last around an hour and a half, during which time Linda will discuss your issue with you in detail and answer any questions you may have. Together you will draw up a list of goals for your therapy sessions and decide on the best course of action for you. Linda will fully explain how hypnosis works and then, time permitting, she will gently guide you into the hypnotic trance so you can begin to work on your presenting issues.

You can be assured that all sessions, including the free initial consultation, are conducted in total confidence.
